AN EXPLOSION IN COLOUR: THE AMERICAS is a major retrospective Solo Exhibition of artworks by Steve Downey. These highly original artworks were inspired by Steve's travels in North and South America over the last 18 years.

Steve will hold a "Meet the Artist" illustrated talk at 2pm on Saturday 2 August [free admission and light refreshments provided].

About Steve Downey

Steve Downey is a visual artist, multi-award-winning filmmaker, and writer. Steve's art has been described as an "explosion in colour", combining photography, computer-generated images, paint and collage into highly original and colourful artworks.

Now in his 80's, Steve has held over 20 solo shows throughout the world, including New York, Delhi, Italy, Norway, and across the UK. He's created dozens of public artworks in hospitals, schools and other public places.

Formerly Arts Manager at Essex County Council, Steve is also an arts consultant organising hundreds of art exhibitions and projects, including setting up the Jaywick Martello Tower, "Coast", curating 7 exhibitions at the Minories, and managing arts projects at Colchester and Broomfield Hospitals and Farleigh Hospice.

His films have won over 100 awards at film festivals across the world.
