The Arborealists at Staverton Park
- Wednesday 4 March – Sunday 3 May 2026
- 10am - 4pm
- 74 High Street, Colchester, CO1 1UE
The Arborealists are a national artists’ collective founded in 2013 of some 50 professional artists of diverse practice. They have staged over 40 exhibitions in the UK and abroad to date. In autumn 2023 they engaged in a two-year exhibition project on Staverton Park in partnership with Dr George Peterken OBE, celebrated expert and author on natural woodland and Gary Battell, ex-Suffolk County Council Tree Officer. Previous site-specific projects include Lady Park Wood, Monmouthshire, and Trees and woodland on Exmoor and Dartmoor.
This exhibition shows the results of this two-year project - exploring the wood as a subject for the visual arts through individual emotive responses to its unique environment. It considers the relevance of the wood to the rhythms of life and the wellbeing of humanity as well as promoting the wood's ecological importance and the need for its conservation.
Exhibition Opening Event: Saturday 7 March, 12-3pm. All welcome
About Staverton Park
Privately owned Staverton Park, of 240 acres and near Woodbridge in Suffolk, is one of the largest areas of ancient, pollarded oak trees in Europe. Of Saxon origin, the park is one of a handful of British medieval parks to have a continuous history from its establishment to the present. It is home to some rare and special fauns and flora and was one of the very first Sites of Special Scientific Interest to be established.
